Consol Family Kitchen (Endicott, NY)

Overall, the decor at Consol's could use some updating, as the new bar area and bourbon lounge are absolutely gorgeous, but there are THREE different ceiling types we walked past on our way to our seats in what is clearly a mish-mash of various add-ons over its 72-year history. The restaurant is badly outdated which is a shame because the food is pretty solid and the pizza is really good, especially at nine bucks for a cheese pie. The tables are worn, the chairs are ripped, the floor is uneven; it's just an old restaurant, and it'd be even more amazing with a facelift. Our server Marissa was excellent; she was very attentive and kind.

Summary: I never got to go inside since we ate out on Main Street, but this new Mexican restaurant is headed for great things. If you've got an appetite, do a couple orders of tacos or an entree; the flavors are bold and vibrant, and the tequila menu alone makes me want to go back for more every time. 4 stars (aggregate average was 77.5%).

Hello everyone and welcome to Random Recipe Challenge number FIVE! It's hard to believe I've already done the random recipe challenge five times, but here we are, and this time we're talking breakfast. In the recipe of the week segment I'll tell you about my banana bread buttermilk waffles, which I topped with a dreamy strawberry maple syrup and served with an andouille sausage scallion bacon hash.

Summary: Literally the best BBQ within 100 miles and probably further. Dwarfs anything that anyone else makes in this area by the longest of long shots and rivals anything in the greater upstate area I've had including in Ithaca and Syracuse. They are headed for some amazing success.

This week on the show, it's an ode to beef! This week's dinner review is from my trip to Remlik's in downtown Binghamton a couple months back where I had some of their delicious prime rib, and in the recipe of the week I'm whipping up some amazing brisket smash burgers topped with bacon and an over-easy egg.

Who out there loves Sriracha? This week is our salute to Sriracha AND our ode to the waffle, what should have been episodes 21 & 22 respectively, but I decided to combine them both into one absolutely outstanding dish in the Recipe of the Week as I talk about Buttermilk Sriracha Fried Chicken & Waffles. While my frying technique still isn't perfect (I need something that can monitor and maintain oil temperature), the results were just outstanding, especially when drizzled with my delicious Sriracha Honey Maple Syrup. To DIE for.

Also this week, a thematic review as I talk about the spicy chicken sandwich I had as part of a trip to the Finger Lakes awhile back at the RoosterFish Brewing Company in Watkins Glen. There were some great parts of this meal, but one thing stands out as a dismal disappointment. We'll also talk about food allergies that I am sure I have, tossing things into a dish at random to get rid of them, and a lime worcestershire flank steak with a tomato corn salad that was just baller. Hello everyone and welcome to another Quick Bite from the RestauRant Podcast, and I know... I owe you guys a season three! It was set to premiere today but unfortunately, life happens and for a number of reasons I'm just not ready right yet to premiere the third season of the show, so that I'm kicking back to April 15th. In the meantime, however, I've got plenty more Quick Bites for you to enjoy, and for this one I'm headed to a local BBQ restaurant called Food & Fire. This modern BBQ restaurant features some pretty ho-hum barbeque, but their beer and wings are fantastic, and that's what I'm talking about today. Hello one and all and welcome to the end... of season two! It has been a blast being in the kitchen for you guys again this season and I am so proud of many of the dishes that I've put out here. I'll be taking a break from making the show for the month of March and we're returning on April 1st to kick off season three! It's time to talk about healthy cooking! I've been doing some work with my own diet of late to try to bring it under control, so this week on the show is all about healthy cooking, from tips that you can find below and hear in This Week In Food, to the three recipes I'll be talking about in this week's episode for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They all turned out fantastic, and I hope you enjoy them!

My healthy cooking tips!

~ Portion control versus eating control. It's less about what you eat than about how much of it you are eating. I don't eat relatively unhealthy as it is, but I eat some decent portions.

~ Know what you're drinking. A lot of drinks add a ton of calories to your daily intake. Cut out things like soda completely, don't substitute it for diet sodas, which are full of chemicals instead of sugar and the body stores it like fat anyway. Coffee drinks, etc from Starbucks? Gah.

~ Indulging. DO NOT DEPRIVE YOURSELF. While some may have the willpower to walk away from something forever, chances are if you deprive yourself from something you will inevitably cave and add it back to your diet. Instead, allow yourself a small indulgence here and there. If you love ice cream, don't give it up... have a cup of ice cream every couple weeks just to enjoy it.

~ Make more from scratch. Store-bought anything usually has preservatives in it, and typically either a ton of sodium, sugar, or both. Even when you want to make things like pie, don't buy store-bought pie filling. Fresh tastes better too! I probably spend half of my money in the grocery store (outside of the beer aisle, haha) in the produce and meat sections.

~ Substitute where practical, and pace yourself. Losing weight and being a better you isn't just a quick sprint. It's a marathon! Reduce one thing here, one thing there. This week for the recipe of the week I decided to make a cauliflower puree instead of mashed potatoes. Lower calories and carbs. I've decided to stop using white sugar and use honey for sweetening instead. That way I'm not cutting things cold turkey that would cause me to regress, I'm just adapting and helping make some reductions.

~ Fitness, fitness, fitness. Get out there and exercise! This will help boost your metabolism and energy and help keep you going throughout the day.

Welcome everyone to a new episode of the RestauRant podcast, and finally this week we're headed back to another chain restaurant as I muster all of my bravery and courage to visit... the 'Bees. That's right, we're headed to Applebee's, one of the chain restaurants that I most loathe, and I've gotta say... ugh. You'll hear the return of Tableside as I discuss the woeful meal that was placed before me including one of the worst French Onion soups I have ever had.

Also this week, we're talking about leftovers spurred on by the chili I am still eating my way through, and with no Recipe of the Week this week I decided instead to talk to you about the upcoming Livestream for the Cure 2.0, which will be from May 18-20 and will span thirty hours of livestream content from the Epic Film Guys and RestauRant. Summary: A disaster. When you discount the scores for the actual atmosphere and service you're left with a dismal 20 out of 65 points. The riblets and French Onion soup were atrocious and the inconsistency of the chicken fingers left me baffled.
